I started to feel much weaker in the couple of years since turning 65. I did a lot of walking and gentle exercises but when I looked in the mirror I started to see a scrawny version of myself. My arms and legs reminded me of my grandmother! I learnt that this is what happens to your muscles as you age and when you don’t do anything to build them up the muscles disappear.

I’ve never seen myself as a naturally strong person but since doing weights and conditioning I’m surprised at how robust I feel. You take up the challenge but it’s in a safe way.

I have osteoarthritis. I’ve had two hip replacements and recently had a knee replacement. I wasn’t sure how I would cope working with weights or doing conditioning but it has not been a problem. I learn the technique with Karl and build up at my own pace. My physiotherapist has been very supportive of what I’m doing and liaising with Karl which gave me a lot of confidence during a long rehab after my last joint replacement.

It doesn’t take a lot of time out of your week yet amazingly it makes you feel so much more robust and resilient. Karl has set up a very supportive community at the gym, no one judges you and you feel welcome every time you go. You look forward to it.
